Marapur
📜
Marapur is an enchanting archipelago located south of Roshamuul and east of Ankrahmun. The archipelago consists of several sub-areas, each with its own unique features and inhabitants, that have slowly but steadily been flooded by the surrounding ocean over several centuries. This gradual flooding has caused the edges of the islands to fray, resulting in the formation of smaller islands and archipelagos in the surrounding waters. The warm ocean currents in the region give rise to a tropically warm and rather humid climate.
GEOGRAPHY AND RESOURCES
Murmuring Wilderness:
The Murmuring Wilderness is a serene expanse of untouched nature, characterized by dense forests and a wide variety of wildlife. It serves as a refuge for many of Marapur's indigenous flora and fauna.
Emerald Gardens:
The Emerald Gardens boast a breathtaking array of plant life, with vibrant colors and unique species dotting the landscape. The Nagas here have cultivated the valuable Starleaf plant, which serves as both a vital food source and a valuable crafting material. These Starleaf farms are carefully tended to by the Nagas to ensure a sustainable supply for their community.

INHABITANTS AND SETTLEMENTS
Marapur is inhabited by the unique and intriguing creatures known as the Nagas. The Nagas possess lower bodies resembling enormous snakes, while their upper torsos have a humanoid appearance with a human head. They have adapted to their changing environment, with two distinct groups living on the archipelago.
Coastal Nagas - Silvertides:
The first group, known as the coastal Nagas, has learned to live harmoniously with the rising waters. They have integrated the water into their culture and way of life, embracing it as an essential aspect of their existence. In the coastal area, the settlement of Silvertides thrives, with the Nagas showcasing their ingenuity in adapting to the unique environment.
Mountain Nagas - Moonfall:
The second group of Nagas resides in the mountainous region of the archipelago. Unlike the coastal Nagas, the mountain Nagas remain unaffected by the gradual flooding. Their settlement, known as Moonfall, stands tall amidst the peaks, providing a safe haven away from the encroaching waters.
SOCIETY AND CULTURE
The Nagas are quite distinctive looking creatures. Their lower bodies resemble enormous snakes, while their upper torsos have a humanoid appearance with a human head. They have four arms, allowing them to perform various tasks simultaneously. Nagas are true masters of magic, casting spells through unique arm gestures known as yukti. Some Nagas can even perform yukti with all four arms, making their magic potent and formidable.
Nagas do not live in families but hatch from eggs collected in large nests. They quickly become independent after hatching. However, the current generation of Nagas is showing a tendency for longer-lasting relationships and a desire for a stronger sense of belonging.
The Nagas celebrate three holidays: Rising Day, commemorating the beginning of the rising sea levels, Cobalt Tide, associated with inspiration, secrets, and love, and Invocation, a time for quiet contemplation, fasting, and sacrifices in a plea for protection.
NAGA ARCHITECTURE
Buildings on Marapur are mainly constructed with reddish-brown baked bricks, with multi-story towers due to the restricted landmass. Naga architecture is characterized by snake or serpentine dragon ornaments, wave-shaped elements, and sculptures. Giant water lily pads are used as sturdy platforms to support smaller wooden structures, and small lily pad paths connect different areas in the coastal regions. A unique invention of the Nagas is the marsh gas lamp, fueled by flammable marsh gases and utilized for illumination.
POLITICAL TENSIONS
The Nagas are an old and proud race, with a remarkable culture and cities filled with riches. They coexist with humanoid races, but tensions exist with the asuri, who were banished from the naga realm ages ago and constantly seek to return and disrupt naga society.
LEGACY AND SIGNIFICANCE
Marapur's enchanting beauty and the unique lifestyle of the Nagas have attracted adventurers and scholars from far and wide. The archipelago's rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions, and deep connection to nature make it a captivating destination for exploration and study. Despite the challenges posed by the slow flooding, Marapur and its inhabitants have demonstrated resilience and ingenuity in adapting to the changing environment. Their ability to coexist harmoniously with the water serves as a remarkable example of living in harmony with nature.
