Choosing Your Vocation

Your vocation is permanent — pick based on preferred combat style, not popularity

All five vocations are viable for reaching 500+ levels. There's no "wrong" choice — but each has a very different feel.

KNIGHT

EK

Melee Tank

Best for: Melee combat, tanking, surviving heavy damage

  • Highest HP and physical defense in the game
  • Uses one-handed weapon + shield OR two-handed weapons
  • Learns Berserk (exori) at level 35 for AoE melee
  • Essential tank role in team hunts
  • Great for solo play — very hard to kill

PALADIN

RP

Ranged Hybrid

Best for: Balanced play, distance combat, self-sustain

  • Ranged attacks with bows/crossbows
  • Has both healing and offensive spells
  • Most versatile — solo and team effective
  • Good HP and decent magic level
  • Best vocation for beginners — very forgiving

SORCERER

MS

Offensive Mage

Best for: Area damage, highest DPS in team hunts

  • Powerful area damage spells (fire, energy, ice, death)
  • Lowest HP — must stay at range to survive
  • Highest exp/hour potential in organized team hunts
  • Relies heavily on magic level for spell power
  • Challenging solo — team hunting recommended

DRUID

ED

Support Mage

Best for: Healing, party support, versatile magic

  • Best healing spells — Mass Healing at level 36
  • Area damage similar to Sorcerer (ice wave, earth wave)
  • Essential healer in all team compositions
  • Good solo play with self-healing + damage
  • Most in-demand vocation for team hunts

BEGINNER RECOMMENDATION

Choose Paladin for your first character. Paladins are the most forgiving: ranged attacks + healing spells + good HP. Your mistakes are less punishing than Sorcerer (fragile) or Knight (needs tanking positioning). You can kite (move while shooting) to avoid damage entirely.

Dawnport Tutorial Walkthrough

All new characters start here — learn game basics and test each vocation before committing

1

ARRIVAL & BASICS

You spawn in Dawnport and get a walkthrough of basic controls: WASD/arrow key movement, clicking to attack, right-clicking to use items, dragging items in your inventory. Kill weak creatures to learn combat. Loot appears in corpses — click to open, drag items to inventory.

2

VOCATION TRIALS

Dawnport lets you try each vocation's combat style before choosing. Explore the four training areas to test Knight melee, Paladin distance, Sorcerer offensive spells, and Druid healing/damage. Take your time — this is your last chance to experiment.

3

CHOOSE VOCATION & LEAVE

At level 8, choose your permanent vocation and sail to mainland. Talk to the captain NPC at the dock. Once you leave Dawnport, you cannot return. Explore all areas and collect loot before departing.

FIRST STEPS ON MAINLAND

1. Find the depot and store your gold safely
2. Buy basic healing potions from NPC shops
3. Buy all 5 Blessings from temple NPCs
4. Start hunting weak creatures near town

5 Essential Beginner Quests

Accessible early, teach important mechanics, and give valuable rewards

Bear Room Quest

LV 8+

Location: South of Thais

One of the first quests new players can complete. Navigate a small cave, defeat bears, and claim a reward chest. Teaches how quest chests work (one-time reward per character) and basic dungeon navigation.

Goblin Temple Quest

LV 8+

Location: North of Thais

Fight through a goblin-infested temple to reach a reward chest. Goblins are weak but spawn in groups, teaching you how to manage multiple enemies and use healing between fights.

Desert Quest

LV 40+

Location: Darashia Desert

Classic Tibia quest through a dangerous desert dungeon. Requires preparation (ropes, shovels, healing supplies). Teaches resource management for longer dungeon runs. Solid equipment rewards.

Spike Sword Quest

LV 40+

Location: Northeast of Triangle Tower

Reward: Spike Sword (Attack: 24, Defense: 21+2, 2 imbuement slots). Navigate past Dwarves and Fire Devils. The Spike Sword is a solid early Knight weapon that lasts well into mid-game.

The First Dragon

LV 30+PREMIUM

Location: Multiple cities

Multi-part quest chain involving exploration, NPC dialogue, and combat encounters. Introduces Tibia's deeper quest system with a story across multiple locations. Rewards include experience and further quest content.

Rookgaard Bear Cave

LOW
Level: 5+
City: Rookgaard
Exp: 1/5

Vocation: All vocations

Very safe, very slow. Good for learning absolute basics of combat. You'll leave this behind quickly once you reach mainland.

Folda

MEDIUM
Level: 7+
City: Carlin
Exp: 4/5
Loot: 3/5

Vocation: All vocations

Island north of Carlin with a creature cave. Surprisingly good exp rating (4/5!) for early levels. Take the boat from Carlin. Be careful on lower floors.

Jakundaf Desert

LOW
Level: 8+
City: Kazordoon
Exp: 1/5
Loot: 1/5

Vocation: All vocations

Scorpions, bugs, and snakes. Low exp and loot but extremely safe for beginners who want to learn without dying.

Ghostlands

MEDIUM
Level: 13–20+
City: Carlin
Exp: 3/5
Loot: 3/5

Vocation: All (Mages 13+, Melee 20+)

Ghosts and skeletons near Carlin. Good step-up from beginner areas. Undead creatures — bring a weapon, not bare fists.

Cyclopolis

HIGH
Level: 34–45+
City: Edron
Exp: 5/5
Loot: 4/5

Vocation: RP 34+, EK 40+, Mage 45+

Your first 'real' hunting ground. Cyclops hit hard but drop valuable equipment. Exp rating 5/5! Paladins can start earliest at 34 thanks to ranged kiting.

Hero Cave

HIGH
Level: 50–70+
City: Edron
Exp: 4/5
Loot: 4/5

Vocation: Mage 50+, RP 60+, EK 70+

Heroes, Demon Skeletons, and strong creatures. Dangerous but very rewarding. Where mid-level players build their fortunes. Bring plenty of supplies.

HUNTING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

Start safe: Hunt where you heal faster than creatures damage you
Increase gradually: Each spot should be only slightly harder than the last
Bring supplies: Health potions for all, mana potions for mages/paladins
Leave early: When supplies run low, go back to town — dying costs exp

Find the optimal spawn for your exact level and vocation with our Hunt Finder — 595 spots with exp/hr and loot/hr rates.

Skill Training & Equipment

Skills improve permanently through use — focus on the right ones for your vocation

COMBAT SKILLS

  • Sword/Axe/Club Fighting: Melee weapon damage (Knights)
  • Distance Fighting: Bow/crossbow damage (Paladins)
  • Magic Level: Spell power — increases by spending mana
  • Shielding: Block chance with shields, improves in melee

WHICH SKILL TO TRAIN

  • Knight: One melee skill (Sword/Axe/Club) + Shielding
  • Paladin: Distance Fighting + Magic Level
  • Sorcerer: Magic Level (primary focus)
  • Druid: Magic Level (primary focus)

SKILLS ARE PERMANENT

Skills never reset. They only go up, never down (death removes a small % of skill progress, not entire levels). Knights: pick ONE weapon type and stick with it forever. Spreading across multiple weapon skills wastes training.

EARLY EQUIPMENT TIPS

Buy equipment from NPC shops in your starting city
Check quest rewards — many give better gear than shops
Use the Market (level 16+) to buy player-sold equipment
Prioritize weapons over armor (more damage = faster kills)

See our Equipment Guide for full gear progression by vocation.

Death Penalty & Blessings

Dying costs experience and gear — Blessings are the most important gold investment in the game

DEATH PENALTY

  • Level 1-23: Lose 10% of XP, skill tries, spent mana
  • Level 24+: Loss scales with level (formula-based)
  • Equipment: Chance to drop items from inventory
  • Respawn: Teleport to your temple/home city

HOW TO REDUCE IT

  • Promotion: -30% death penalty (buy from King NPC)
  • Each Blessing: -8% death penalty per blessing
  • All 5 Blessings: -40% total reduction
  • Combined: Promotion + 5 Blessings = massive reduction

5 BASIC BLESSINGS (BUY THESE ASAP)

1. The Spiritual Shielding — NPC Norf, south of Thais (Free)
2. The Embrace of Tibia — NPC Humphrey, north of Carlin (Free)
3. The Fire of the Suns — NPC Edala, south of Ab'Dendriel (Free)
4. The Spark of the Phoenix — NPCs Kawill + Pydar, Kazordoon (Free)
5. The Wisdom of Solitude — Eremo's Island (Premium)

Also available for 15-20 TC each in the Store, or from Blessing Charm items. Blessings are consumed on death — repurchase after every death.

The #1 rule:The cost of 5 Blessings is far cheaper than the experience you'll lose dying without them. After every death, immediately re-buy all 5 before hunting again. Use our Blessing Calculator to see exact costs.

5 Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

Every veteran Tibia player made these — learn from their experience

MISTAKE 1: HUNTING WITHOUT BLESSINGS

Many beginners skip Blessings to save gold. One death without Blessings can cost more experience than hours of hunting. Always buy all 5 basic Blessings + Promotion as soon as you can afford them.

MISTAKE 2: HUNTING TOO DANGEROUS SPAWNS

If you're dying repeatedly, you're in the wrong spot. It's faster to hunt an easier spawn at full efficiency than a harder spawn where you die every 30 minutes.

MISTAKE 3: NOT CARRYING ENOUGH SUPPLIES

Running out of healing potions mid-hunt means death. Always bring more than you think you'll need. Health potions for everyone, mana potions for mages and paladins.

MISTAKE 4: TRAINING MULTIPLE WEAPON SKILLS

Knights: pick ONE weapon type (sword, axe, or club) and stick with it forever. Training multiple skills splits your progress and makes you weaker at everything.

MISTAKE 5: TRUSTING STRANGERS WITH ITEMS

Never drop items on the ground for someone. Always use secure trade (Ctrl+click). Don't share account credentials. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it's a scam.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best vocation for beginners in Tibia?
Paladin is the most beginner-friendly vocation. Paladins can attack from range (avoiding damage), have healing spells for self-sustain, and can solo or team effectively. Knights are also forgiving due to high HP. Mages (Sorcerer/Druid) are harder for beginners due to low HP and higher mana management.
Is Tibia free to play in 2026?
Yes, Tibia has a free account option. Free accounts can play all vocations, access mainland, hunt, and complete many quests. Premium accounts unlock additional areas, spells, higher-tier imbuements, and quality-of-life features like offline training. Most players recommend Premium for serious play.
How long does it take to reach level 100 in Tibia?
With focused hunting and decent gear, a new player can reach level 100 in 1-3 weeks of active play. Experienced players with optimized routes and imbuements can do it faster. The key is hunting in the right spots for your level — use our Hunt Finder tool to find optimal spawns.
Should I buy Premium Account right away?
Premium is not required to start, but it makes the experience significantly better. Premium unlocks offline training (skill up while logged out), more hunting areas, promotion (reduced death penalty), and better spells. If you enjoy the first few days, upgrading to Premium is worth it.
What should I spend my first gold on in Tibia?
Priority order: (1) Blessings — reduces death penalty by 40%, the single best investment. (2) Promotion — another death penalty reduction from King NPCs. (3) Equipment upgrades — better weapons increase hunting speed. (4) Healing supplies — always keep enough potions for your next hunt.
