SWEEPING TAKEDOWN POSITIONING GUIDE: HIT ALL 6 TILES EVERY TIME

The most common Monk complaint on r/TibiaMMO: “I built a full 5-stack Harmony and my Sweeping Takedown only hit 3 creatures.” The spell is not bugged — the Monk is. This guide dissects the exact 3×2 + 3×2 hitbox of Sweeping Takedown, the movement-tick trick that stops creatures from sliding out of the rear box, and gives you corridor setups for every major Monk spawn from level 60 to 400+.

TL;DR — THE 30-SECOND FIX

  • Hitbox: 3×2 rectangle in facing direction + connected 3×2 at 75% damage — 18 tiles max, 6 long × 3 wide.
  • Direction: Cardinal only (N/S/E/W). No diagonal aim.
  • Pre-face the densest row before casting. Use arrow keys / WASD — do not rely on auto-follow.
  • Wait for monster movement tick to resolve before casting. Cast on the “settled” frame.
  • Pull into dead-ends / walls. A creature against a wall cannot slip out of the rear box.
  • On 1-2 creatures: Skip Sweeping. Use Devastating Knockout (lvl 125) or save Harmony.

1. THE EXACT HITBOX — 3×2 + 3×2 EXPLAINED

TibiaWiki's Sweeping Takedown page gives the precise wording: “Consumes Harmony and causes high damage to the 3×2 box in the direction of the attack and an additional 75% of the damage to the following connected 3×2 box.” Translated into game tiles, that means:

FACING NORTH — ASCII DIAGRAM

  . X X X . ← rear 3x2 box (75% damage)
  . X X X . ← front 3x2 box (100% damage)
  . . M . . ← you, facing north
  . . . . .

FRONT BOX

  • • 3 tiles wide × 2 tiles deep
  • • 100% spell damage
  • • Starts 1 sqm in front of you
  • • Center-aligned on your facing direction

REAR BOX

  • • 3 tiles wide × 2 tiles deep
  • • 75% spell damage
  • • Starts immediately behind front box
  • • Same width column as front box

Total footprint: 6 tiles deep × 3 tiles wide = 18 sqm maximum coverage. This is one of the largest single-cast AoE footprints in Tibia — but only if every tile has a monster standing on it.

2. WHY SWEEPING TAKEDOWN WHIFFS — 5 COMMON CAUSES

#1 — MOVEMENT TICK DESYNC

Monsters move on a fixed tick. If you cast during a tick, the game snapshots positions before their new tile is occupied. Result: the creature you saw on the 5th row was already mid-step toward the 7th row when the spell resolved. Fix:cast on the visual “settled” frame — when all monsters have stopped sliding.

#2 — CREATURES SCATTER OUT OF THE 3-WIDE COLUMN

In open spawns, monsters pathfind around each other and drift into the 4th or 5th column. Your 3-wide strip catches only the center lane. Fix: pull into corridors no wider than 3 tiles so there is physically nowhere to drift to.

#3 — AUTO-FOLLOW FLIPS YOUR FACING

If you're attacking a creature to the north and another approaches from the east, auto-follow can swing you east the moment the original dies. Your Sweeping now fires east into 2 creatures instead of north into 8. Fix:before casting, tap an arrow key to force your facing. Monks don't need line-of-sight for Sweeping — facing is enough.

#4 — PACK TOO CLOSE (INSIDE YOUR OWN TILE)

The front box starts 1 tile in front of you — a creature standing on your diagonal or directly adjacent can still be outside the box. Fix: step back 1 tile before casting if creatures are bunched directly on top of you. You lose one tick of DPS but gain a full Sweeping hit.

#5 — USING IT ON 1-2 CREATURES

Sweeping Takedown has a base power of 48. On a single target, Devastating Knockout or Chained Penance out-damages it per Harmony spent. Fix: reserve Sweeping for 3+ creature packs. Swap to single-target spenders otherwise.

3. THE 4 PROFESSIONAL POSITIONING TECHNIQUES

TECHNIQUE 1 — THE CORRIDOR FUNNEL

Find a 3-wide hallway or carve one by staying between walls. Walk backward so creatures follow in a tight line. When Harmony reaches 5, stop, face forward, wait one tick, cast.

Best spawns: Banuta Apes, Ankrahmun Forbidden Temple, Yalahar Grim Reapers, Draken Walls tunnels.

TECHNIQUE 2 — THE DEAD-END STACK

Pull 6+ creatures then run into a dead-end corner. They pile behind you — turn around, cast into the stack. The wall prevents any creature from moving beyond your 6-deep strip.

Best spawns: Okolnir ice caves, Fenrock Dragon Lord ramps, Deeper Banuta -6 Medusa rooms.

TECHNIQUE 3 — STAIRS RESET

On the staircase tile, creatures freeze in place for a movement tick as they try to path onto the stairs. This is the single best moment to cast — zero desync.

Best spawns: Carlin Cults (multiple staircases), Edron Vampire Crypt, Oramond West ramps.

TECHNIQUE 4 — EXANI HUR POSITION RESET

On open maps, use Exani Hur Up/Down to teleport 1 tile and force monsters to re-pathfind. They bunch up during the recalculation — cast immediately after landing.

Best spawns: Desecrated Glade, Grimvale -4 Werecreatures, Hive Surface.

4. PER-SPAWN SETUPS (LEVEL 60–300+)

All spots below are pulled from our monk hunting database. Exp/hr numbers are solo-Monk averages from TibiaPal.

LVLSPAWNEXP/HRSWEEPING SETUP
60+Edron Vampire Crypt200kUse staircase reset — Vampires freeze on ramps.
80+Nightmare Scions (Krailos)400kPull 8+ into the narrow temple corridors. Face north, stack, cast.
80+Grimvale -4 Werecreatures450kDead-end pull — Werebears have low path priority, pile nicely.
80+Okolnir350kFrost Dragons clump tight — cast Sweeping into any 3+ pack.
100+Carlin Cults700kStairs reset technique — spawns have 3 cultists per floor.
100+Oramond West (Minos)800kLarge open rooms — use Exani Hur reset, cast during pathfind delay.
100+Inner Hive (Spidris)750kCorridor funnel — Kollos and Spidris chain behind in straight lines.
130+Grim Reapers Yalahar3.5kkTight corridors — dead-end pulls trivial. Best Sweeping spawn in game.

5. THE DAMAGE MATH — WHY 1 TILE MISSED = 25% OF YOUR COMBO LOST

Harmony stacks multiply spender damage: 7% / 14% / 28% / 56% / 112% bonus at stacks 1-5. A 5-stack Sweeping Takedown hits roughly 16× harder than a 1-stack Sweeping — the entire point of building Harmony is to land a full 5-stack spender on a maximally packed strip.

Assuming base power 48 and a 5-stack cast at 212% modifier (base × 2.12), the theoretical maximum AoE output if every tile is occupied:

TILES HITDAMAGE MULTIPLIER% OF MAX
18 (full strip)~1,884100%
12 (front full + rear partial)~1,37073%
6 (front box only)~82044%
3 (common whiff)~41022%

THE REAL COST OF A WHIFFED SWEEPING

A 3-creature Sweeping gives you roughly 22% of the theoretical damage per Harmony spent. You're not just “missing some damage” — you're throwing away 5 builder casts worth of DPS and 8 seconds of cooldown. Over an hour, consistently hitting 12+ tiles instead of 3 is the difference between 400k/h and 900k/h on the same spawn.

6. SWEEPING TAKEDOWN IN THE FULL MONK ROTATION

Sweeping unlocks at level 60. From that point your AoE rotation is:

Level 60-89:

Flurry → Chain → Flurry → Chain → Flurry → Sweeping Takedown

Level 90+ (Greater Flurry unlocked):

Gran Flurry → Flurry → Chain → Flurry → Chain → Sweeping Takedown

Level 150+ (Focus Serenity):

Pull → Build 5 Harmony → Sweeping → Focus Serenity (resets CDs + max Harmony) → Sweeping Takedown again inside the 7s Serene window.

💡 VIRTUE CHOICE FOR SWEEPING

Solo AoE hunting:Virtue of Justice wins by a wide margin — +16% Fist Fighting in Serene adds directly to Sweeping's base damage.

Double-spend combo: Virtue of Harmony refunds 1 Harmony per spender, letting you fire Sweeping → builder → Sweeping on cooldown in the biggest packs.

High-damage content / training: Virtue of Sustain only — every other situation favours Justice or Harmony.

7. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What shape is Sweeping Takedown in Tibia?

Sweeping Takedown hits a 3×2 rectangle in the direction the Monk is facing, plus a connected 3×2 rectangle at 75% damage behind the first. That's a 6-tile long, 3-tile wide strip — up to 18 creatures if a spawn is fully packed, though 8-12 is realistic in open areas.

Why does my Sweeping Takedown only hit 3 creatures?

The most common reason is casting while creatures are mid-movement. Tibia monsters tick movement on the same cycle as spells — if you cast at the wrong moment they slide out of the rear 3×2 box. Pull creatures into a dead-end corridor or against a wall so they cannot move further, wait a half-tick for them to settle, then cast.

What level do you get Sweeping Takedown?

Sweeping Takedown (exori mas nia) unlocks at level 60 for Monks. It costs 195 mana, has an 8-second cooldown, and consumes all stored Harmony. Base damage is 48, multiplied by your Harmony stacks (up to 112% at 5 stacks) and by your active Virtue.

Is Sweeping Takedown better than Devastating Knockout?

Sweeping Takedown is the AoE spender — use it on 3 or more creatures. Devastating Knockout (level 125) is a single-target spender and will always out-damage Sweeping on 1-2 creatures. Smart monks bind both and swap based on pack size.

Which Virtue is best with Sweeping Takedown?

Virtue of Justice gives the most raw damage (+8% Fist Fighting, +16% Serene). Virtue of Harmony is strong if you plan to double-spend — it refunds 1 Harmony per spender cast. Virtue of Sustain is only optimal when survival is the bottleneck.

Can Sweeping Takedown hit diagonally?

No. Sweeping Takedown fires in one of four cardinal directions (N/S/E/W) — the direction your character is facing. Pre-face the densest row before casting.

What hunting spots are best for Sweeping Takedown?

Any open-floor spawn where you can pull stacks into corridors: Banuta Apes, Krailos Nightmare Scions (80), Okolnir (80), Carlin Cults (100), Oramond West Minos (100), Grim Reapers Yalahar (130), Lower Spike Deepworms (150). Avoid narrow 1-wide tunnels — they waste the 3-wide component.
