The Winter Update 2023 expanded the original system, including a different tab called the Gem Atelier.
Obtaining Gems:
Gems can be acquired through defeating bosses and fiendish monsters:
Lesser Gems should primarily be found by defeating influenced monsters, but can also drop from fiendish monsters.
Regular Gems should primarily be found by defeating Archfoe bosses with co-op loot, but can also drop from fiendish monsters.
Greater Gems should primarily be found by defeating fiendish monsters, but Archfoe bosses with co-op loot have a low chance of dropping these as well.
Gem Mods:
A gem will provide no bonuses by itself, and can be traded between players. Once a character reveals a gem through the Gem Atelier, though, then that gem item will disappear, and the gem will be bound to that character's gem list. When this is done, the gem's mods are revealed, and players can socket these revealed gems into their Wheel of Destiny vessels. Each character can reveal and bind a maximum of 225 gems, but players can freely remove undesired gems, freeing up space to reveal more.
Revealed gems have different amounts of mods, based on their size: Lesser Gems have one Basic Mod slot, Regular Gems have two Basic Mod slots, and Greater Gems have two Basic Mod and one Supreme Mod slots. Revealing a gem will reveal all the gems mods at the same time.
Socketing Gems:
Gems can only be socketed into vessels that are of the same domain color as the gem itself, the so called domain affinity. Players can pay to change the domain affinity of a gem, by rotating the affinity to the next clockwise domain on the Wheel of Destiny.
When socketing a gem, at least one Vessel Resonance of the Wheel has to be enabled before its bonuses start to be applied. If a Gem has more than one mod slot, then the players need to enable more Vessel Resonances on that Wheel domain for the other mods to apply. For example, if a player has enabled only one Vessel Resonance in the Wheel, but socketed a Regular Gem with +2% fire resistance in its first mod slot, and +300 hitpoints on its second mod slot, they will only benefit from fire resistance bonus.
Additionally, when the amount of Vessel Resonances enabled matches the amount of mod slots in a socketed gem, a bonus to damage and healing will be applied:
lesser gem and one vessel: +1 damage/healing
regular gem and two vessels: +1 damage/healing
greater gem and three vessels: +2 damage/healing
Atelier Costs:
The following table lists the costs to reveal gem mods and rotate domain affinity, for each gem size:
class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;"
-
! !! Lesser Gem !! Regular Gem !! Greater Gem
-
Rotate affinity 125,000 250,000 500,000
-
Reveal mods 125,000 1,000,000 6,000,000
Fragment Workshop:
The Fragment Workshop allows players to upgrade mods to unlock the full potential of their gems. All mods are initially at Grade I, and can be upgraded up to Grade IV to increase their power. At Grade IV, they grant 50% increase over their Grade I bonuses. However, it is important to note that mod grades can be inactive depending on the grade of previous mod slots. For example, if a Supreme Mod of a Gem is raised to Grade IV, but the Basic Mods are at Grade I, the Supreme Mod will not benefit from it's higher grade bonus. Each slot can only benefit from a grade as high as the previous slot's grade.
These upgrades require a good amount of gold and fragments:
"wikitable" style="text-align: center;"
! Grade !! Fragments !! Gold (Basic Mod) !! Gold (Supreme Mod)
Grade II 5 fragments 2,000,000 5,000,000
Grade III 15 fragments 5,000,000 12,500,000
Grade IV 30 fragments 30,000,000 75,000,000
Lesser Fragment and Greater Fragments are valuable remnants of shattered gems. To obtain fragments, players can either smash unrevealed gems with a
Crusher or
Amber Crusher, or they can dismantle revealed gems in the Gem Atelier. Depending on the quality of the gem and whether it is revealed or unrevealed, they will receive a certain number of fragments:
"wikitable" style="text-align: center;"
! !! Lesser !! Regular !! Greater
Unrevealed Gem 1-4 lesser fragments 2-8 lesser fragments 1-4 greater fragments
Revealed Gem 1-5 lesser fragments 2-10 lesser fragments 1-5 greater fragments
In many cases, a higher mod grade improves the specific mod bonus. However, increasing the mod grade of cooldown augmentations does not reduce spell cooldowns further but adds a chance to gain Momentum. Enhancing mods to their highest grade not only boosts the gem's power but also earns permanent Promotion Points, and for every mod fully enhanced to Grade IV, a character will receive an additional Promotion Point for their Wheel of Destiny.
