What is Promotion?

The Exalted Monk title and what it means

Promotion is a permanent upgrade available to all vocations in Tibia once they reach level 20 with an active Premium Account. For Monks, promotion transforms you from a regular Monk into an Exalted Monk. This upgrade is purchased once for 20,000 gold pieces from specific NPCs around the game world and can never be lost -- not even through death.

Promotion is one of the most important milestones in early Monk progression. It unlocks critical spells including the three Virtue toggles (Virtue of Justice, Virtue of Harmony, Virtue of Sustain), dramatically improves your regeneration rates, reduces the punishing death penalty, and grants a massive soul point boost. Every Monk should promote at level 20 without exception.

Beyond the base promotion, endgame players can obtain Promotion Scrolls from the Rotten Blood Quest that grant additional Wheel of Destiny promotion points -- up to 50 extra points across 5 different scrolls. These are separate from the base promotion and represent the final tier of the promotion system.

💡 SAVING 20,000 GP BY LEVEL 20

At level 20, 20,000 gp might feel like a significant sum. The fastest way to earn this is by selling creature products (minotaur leather, cyclops toe) and loot from your hunting sessions between levels 8-19. Selling items to NPC shops or the market will easily cover the cost by the time you reach level 20. Do not delay promotion to save gold -- the benefits far outweigh the cost.

Promotion NPC Locations

Seven NPCs across the game world

Seven NPCs sell promotion across the Tibia game world. All charge the same 20,000 gp fee and have the same level 20 requirement. Choose whichever is most convenient for your current location.

💡 DIALOGUE KEYWORD

To purchase promotion, talk to any of these NPCs and say "promotion". The NPC will confirm the 20,000 gp cost and ask you to confirm. Say "yes"to complete the purchase. Make sure you have 20,000 gp in your inventory (not in your bank account) or enough balance in your bank depending on the NPC.

All Promotion Benefits

Everything the Exalted Monk title gives you

Promotion provides six major categories of benefits. Together, they transform the Monk from a fragile early-game melee fighter into a sustainable combat machine.

1. 30% REDUCED DEATH PENALTY

The single most valuable benefit of promotion. When you die as an Exalted Monk, you lose 30% less experience and skill pointscompared to an unpromoted Monk. This compounds over time -- every death at high levels can cost hundreds of thousands of experience. The 30% reduction saves you hours of grinding over a character's lifetime.

2. IMPROVED HP AND MANA REGENERATION

Promoted Monks regenerate HP and mana faster than unpromoted Monks. This reduces downtime between pulls, decreases potion consumption, and improves overall hunting efficiency. The exact rates are covered in the regeneration comparison section below.

3. SOUL POINTS: +100 MAX, 8x FASTER REGEN

Unpromoted Monks have a maximum of 100 soul points and regenerate 1 soul point every 2 minutes. Promoted Monks gain an additional 100 soul points (200 max) and regenerate at 1 soul point per 15 seconds -- 8 times faster. Soul points are consumed when using certain spells and runes, so faster regeneration means fewer interruptions to your gameplay.

4. ACCESS TO PROMOTION-LOCKED SPELLS

Several critical Monk spells require promotion to learn. Most notably, the three Virtue toggle spells(Virtue of Justice, Virtue of Harmony, Virtue of Sustain) are unlocked at level 20 with promotion. These are the foundation of the Monk's combat system. See the unlocked spells section below for the complete list.

5. 100 MINOR CHARM ECHOES

Upon promoting, you receive 100 Minor Charm Echoes as a one-time bonus. Minor Charm Echoes are the currency used to unlock Minor Charms in the charm system. This gives you a head start toward your first Minor Charm. See the Monk Charm Guide for how to spend them optimally.

6. EXALTED MONK TITLE

Your character's vocation label changes from "Monk" to "Exalted Monk" on your character page, in the highscores, and when other players inspect you. This is a permanent cosmetic change that signals your promoted status.

DO NOT DELAY PROMOTION

Some players consider saving the 20,000 gp for equipment upgrades instead of promoting at level 20. This is a mistake. The death penalty reduction alone will save you more than 20,000 gp worth of experience over just a few deaths. The regeneration improvements and spell access are essential for efficient hunting from level 20 onward. Promote immediately.

Regeneration Comparison

Unpromoted vs Exalted Monk rates

One of the most impactful promotion benefits is improved regeneration. The tables below show the exact HP and mana regeneration rates for Monks before and after promotion, along with the per-level stat gains.

HP AND MANA REGENERATION

HP Regen1 HP every 7 seconds1 HP every 5 seconds+40% faster
Mana Regen2 mana every 4 seconds2 mana every 3 seconds+33% faster

MONK STATS PER LEVEL

Mana+10 Mana~350 Mana~1,150 Mana~2,150 Mana
Capacity+25 oz~650 oz~2,650 oz~5,150 oz

💡 REGENERATION IN PRACTICE

While the raw regeneration numbers look modest, they compound significantly during long hunting sessions. At promoted rates, you passively regenerate roughly 720 HP per hour and 2,400 mana per hour just from sitting. During active hunting, this passive regeneration supplements your healing spells and Virtue Healing passive, reducing potion consumption and allowing you to sustain longer pulls without stopping.

Spells Unlocked by Promotion

Critical spells that require Exalted Monk status

Several essential Monk spells require promotion to learn. The three Virtue toggle spells are the most important -- they form the foundation of the Monk combat system. Without promotion, you cannot activate any Virtue, which severely limits your damage output, healing capability, and Harmony efficiency.

VIRTUE TOGGLE SPELLS (LEVEL 20, PROMOTION REQUIRED)

Virtue of Justice -- utito virtu (210 mana)

+8% Fist Fighting (+16% when Serene). The go-to Virtue for solo hunting and any DPS-focused scenario. Raw damage increase to all attacks. Since solo monks are always Serene, you effectively get +16% Fist Fighting at all times when hunting alone.

Virtue of Harmony -- utori virtu (210 mana)

+3% Harmony base bonus (+6% when Serene). Refunds 1 Harmony on spender use. Best for sustained DPS rotations in team hunts. The Harmony refund means your spender spells leave you at 1 Harmony instead of 0, allowing you to cycle back to 5 stacks faster.

Virtue of Sustain -- utura tio (210 mana)

+35% all healing (+70% when Serene). Amplifies both your active healing spells and the passive Virtue Healing that triggers whenever you build or spend Harmony. Essential for the off-healer role in team hunts or for survivability in dangerous spawns.

💡 VIRTUES ARE YOUR CORE MECHANIC

Without Virtue spells, your Harmony builder/spender system operates at base efficiency only. Virtue of Justice alone provides +16% Fist Fighting when Serene (solo), which is an enormous damage multiplier applied to every single attack. An unpromoted Monk at level 20 deals significantly less damage than a promoted Monk at the same level. For a deep dive into spell rotations, see the Monk Spell Rotation Guide.

Promotion Scrolls (Wheel of Destiny)

Endgame upgrades from the Rotten Blood Quest

Beyond the base promotion, Tibia features a system of Promotion Scrolls that grant additional points for the Wheel of Destiny. These are endgame items that drop from Bakragore in the Rotten Blood Quest at various burden levels. A total of 50 extra promotion points can be earned across 5 different scrolls.

HOW PROMOTION SCROLLS WORK

  • Source: All scrolls drop from Bakragore in the Rotten Blood Quest. Different burden levels unlock access to different scrolls.
  • Level requirement: You must be level 51 or higher to use any promotion scroll.
  • One-time use: Each scroll can only be used once per character. The points are permanent.
  • Wheel of Destiny: The extra promotion points are spent in the Wheel of Destiny to unlock additional perks, augmentations, and stat bonuses.
  • Tradeable: Promotion scrolls can be traded between players or bought on the market.

💡 PRIORITIZE BASE PROMOTION FIRST

Promotion scrolls are endgame content. The Rotten Blood Quest requires level 500+ to participate effectively. Focus on the base promotion at level 20 first -- it provides immediate, essential benefits. Promotion scrolls are a long-term goal that will come naturally as you progress through endgame content. For Wheel of Destiny point allocation, see the Monk Wheel of Destiny Guide.

BURDEN LEVELS MATTER

Each promotion scroll is tied to a specific burden level of the Bakragore encounter in the Rotten Blood Quest. Higher burden levels are significantly harder and require well-coordinated teams with strong gear. Do not expect to obtain all 5 scrolls quickly -- the Advanced Promotion Scroll (20 points) requires the highest burden level and is one of the most challenging pieces of content in the game.

When & How to Promote

Practical advice for new Monks

STEP-BY-STEP PROMOTION GUIDE

1
Reach Level 20

Follow the Monk Leveling Guide 8-100 for the fastest path. Levels 8-20 take roughly 1-3 hours with efficient hunting at Rotworms, Cyclops, or Tarantulas.

2
Collect 20,000 Gold

You should have this from selling loot during levels 8-19. If not, a quick hunt at Cyclops (Mistrock or Edron) will earn enough gold in 30-60 minutes from creature product drops.

3
Visit a Promotion NPC

The most convenient NPC depends on your location. King Tibianus III in Thais is the default choice for most players. Say "promotion" to the NPC and confirm with "yes".

4
Activate a Virtue

Immediately after promoting, learn and activate Virtue of Justice(utito virtu) for solo hunting. This gives you +16% Fist Fighting while Serene (which is always, when solo). Your damage output increases dramatically.

5
Learn All Available Promotion Spells

Visit a spell NPC to learn Intense Healing (exura gran), Strong Haste (utani gran hur), and all three Virtue spells. These will be your core toolkit going forward. See the Monk Vocation Guide for the complete spell list and rotation advice.

💡 POST-PROMOTION PRIORITIES

After promoting at level 20, your next major milestones are:
Level 30: Mystic Repulse (from Way of the Monk Quest Shrine of Respect) -- ranged builder with 7 sqm range.
Level 35: Flurry of Blows -- your first AoE builder, transforms hunting efficiency.
Level 60: Sweeping Takedown -- the signature AoE spender that defines Monk gameplay.
Level 80: Spirit Mend -- powerful self heal that replaces Intense Healing.

💡 PREMIUM ACCOUNT EXPIRES?

If your Premium Account expires after promotion, you keep the Exalted Monk title and the base regeneration benefits. However, you lose access to Premium-only spells (Forceful Uppercut, Summon Monk Familiar, Focus Harmony, Avatar of Balance, Gift of Life) and Premium-only hunting areas. The Virtue toggle spells remain available to Free Account players who were promoted while Premium.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common promotion questions answered

When should I promote my Monk?
Promote your Monk as soon as you hit level 20 and can afford the 20,000 gp fee. The improved regeneration, reduced death penalty, soul point increase, and access to Virtue toggle spells are all essential for efficient gameplay. There is no reason to delay promotion.
Is the Monk promotion worth 20,000 gold?
Absolutely. The 30% reduced death penalty alone saves you far more than 20,000 gp over time. Add improved HP and mana regeneration, +100 soul points, 100 Minor Charm Echoes, and access to Virtue spells -- promotion is the single highest-value purchase you can make at level 20.
Where is the closest NPC to buy promotion?
The most convenient NPCs depend on your location. King Tibianus III in Thais is the most commonly used since Thais is the central hub. Queen Eloise in Carlin, Emperor Kruzak in Kazordoon, and Grand Vizier Ishebad in Ankrahmun are alternatives. Rotem Valos at the Adventurers' Guild is accessible from any city with a boat.
What are promotion scrolls and how do I get them?
Promotion scrolls grant additional Wheel of Destiny promotion points (up to 50 total). They drop from Bakragore in the Rotten Blood Quest at different burden levels. You must be level 51 or higher to use them. They are separate from the base promotion and are endgame upgrades.
Do I lose my promotion if I die?
No. Once purchased, promotion is permanent. It persists through death and cannot be lost. You only need to buy it once per character.
Can Free Account players get promoted?
No. Promotion requires an active Premium Account. If your Premium Account expires after promotion, you keep the promoted title but lose access to Premium-only spells and features until you resubscribe.
What is the difference between promotion and promotion scrolls?
The base promotion (20,000 gp at level 20) gives you the Exalted Monk title with improved regeneration, reduced death penalty, extra soul points, and spell access. Promotion scrolls are separate endgame items from the Rotten Blood Quest that grant additional Wheel of Destiny promotion points -- up to 50 extra points across 5 scrolls.
