What Are Monk Shrines?
Ancient Merudri shrines scattered across Tibia
Monk Shrines -- formally called Ancient Shrines or Merudri Shrines -- are 10 sacred locations scattered across the world of Tibia. They form the backbone of The Way of the Monk Quest, a pilgrimage that takes players from the starter island of Targuna all the way to the Kilmaresh Mountains.
Each shrine has a minimum level requirementand must be visited in strict sequential order. When you arrive at a shrine, you “meditate” to receive experience points and (for Monks) exclusive rewards including equipment, spells, and permanent auto attack damage bonuses.
💡 NOT TO BE CONFUSED
Monk Shrines are completely different from Holy Shrinesused for Feyrist access. The two systems share nothing except the word “shrine” in their names. This guide covers only the Monk/Merudri shrines from The Way of the Monk Quest.

Tips & Strategy
Maximize your shrine pilgrimage efficiency
PLAN PREREQUISITES EARLY
Four shrines require prerequisite quests. Start working on the Barbarian Test Quest, Pits of Inferno Quest, Tomes of Knowledge, and Cults of Tibia Quest well before you reach the required levels. Being blocked at a shrine because you lack quest access wastes valuable leveling time.
PRIORITIZE AUTO ATTACK SHRINES
For Monks, shrines 3 through 7 (Respect, Legacy, Empathy, Harmony, Power) each grant +5% auto attack damage. These bonuses stack and double when Serene. Completing these five shrines as soon as you meet the level requirements directly increases your sustained damage output by 25% (50% Serene).
ITEMS TO BRING
Pack a Rope, Shovel, Machete (or Secret Agent Tools), and a Levitate spell or parcels. Several shrines are in areas that require these tools for navigation.
NON-MONKS SHOULD STILL DO THIS
Even if you are not a Monk, completing the full pilgrimage grants 847,800 XP and 10 Promotion Points for the Wheel of Destiny. The promotion points alone make this quest worthwhile on any character, especially since the shrines take you through areas you likely already have access to at the required levels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the first Monk Shrine located?
The Shrine of Guidance is located on the starter island of Targuna. From the Targuna temple, head south-west through the village toward the western hill overlooking the coast. You can reach Targuna via the Adventurer's Guild Enchanted Guarded Crystal Sphere at level 6.
Do I have to visit monk shrines in order?
Yes. The 10 shrines must be visited sequentially from lowest to highest level requirement. You cannot skip ahead to a higher-level shrine without completing the previous one first. The order starts with Guidance (level 6) and ends with Eternity (level 275).
Can non-Monk vocations use the shrines?
Yes. All vocations can meditate at the shrines and receive experience rewards (847,800 XP total across all 10 shrines) plus 10 Promotion Points for the Wheel of Destiny. However, only Monks receive the exclusive equipment pieces, spells, and the cumulative auto attack damage bonus.
What quests do I need to complete before visiting all shrines?
Shrines 1 and 2 have no prerequisites. Later shrines require: Barbarian Test Quest + first mission of The Ice Islands Quest (Shrine 3 — Tyrsung access), Pits of Inferno Quest shortcut (Shrine 7), 8 Tomes of Knowledge delivered to NPC Cael (Shrine 8), and the Cults of Tibia Quest Barkless section (Shrine 9).
How much total XP do monk shrines give?
All 10 shrines combined grant 847,800 experience points. The majority comes from the final three shrines: Knowledge (75,000 XP), Serenity (150,000 XP), and Eternity (500,000 XP). Every vocation receives the full XP amount.
What is the auto attack bonus from monk shrines?
Five of the ten shrines (Respect, Legacy, Empathy, Harmony, and Power) each grant Monks a permanent +5% auto attack damage bonus, stacking to 25% total. When in the Serene state, these bonuses are doubled to +50% total auto attack damage. Non-Monk vocations do not receive this bonus.
Are Monk Shrines the same as Holy Shrines for Feyrist?
No. Monk Shrines (also called Ancient Shrines or Merudri Shrines) are part of The Way of the Monk Quest and are exclusive to the monk pilgrimage. Holy Shrines used for Feyrist access are an entirely separate game mechanic. The two systems share no connection beyond the word "shrine" in their names.
