Dawnport

📜

Dawnport was one of the former beginner's island, first mentioned on and implemented in Update 10.55. It was located southwest of Ghostlands, , until it was removed from the game. Dawnport aimed to introduce the player to the game by allowing them to test each vocation to get a feel before they make their final decision. In addition, there were many areas to explore, a few quests and tasks to complete and a wide variety of creatures to hunt. Dawnport replaced Rookgaard as the beginner's island, but Rookgaard still remained accessible to accounts with at least one character on Mainland already, with Inigo bringing players there. Unlike Rookgaard, there was no premium area in Dawnport. All players could access all areas. Players had to leave Dawnport when they hit level 20, but they could leave as early as level 8. When you died on Dawnport, you would keep all your items, unless you were level 8 or higher, in which case the usual death penalty applied. Upon reaching level 20, the player would be teleported to the Temple underneath the starting area after 5 minutes. If the player walked into the starting area before the timer ended, they would also get teleported downstairs and would be unable to go back up to visit the shops. Therefore, it was advised to return to the starting area just before reaching level 20 to take care of errands, such as selling and buying items as well as organizing the items you wanted to take with you to the mainland. Dawnport offered a quick way to reach level 20, as one could reach from 25k exp/h (as Knight), up to 55k exp/h (as Sorcerer), depending on chosen class and if free or premium account. Especially for free account players, it was recommended to stay in Dawnport until almost level 20, as getting to that level on mainland could prove to be tough, way more dangerous and way slower in comparison. A total of 2000 Gold Pieces could be taken with you to the mainland, 1500 deposited in your bank account and 500 cash in your backpack. Any extra gold had to be either thrown away or donated to the NPC that warps you to the mainland. To maximize your starting funds on the mainland, filling your backpack with Brass Helmets (0.9 g/oz.) or Plate Shields (0.7 g/oz) was recommended, as they offered the best "Gold to Weight"-ratio of the farmable items in Dawnport.

VOCATIONS

Dawnport was created to allow new players to test the different vocations before venturing onto the mainland. Changing vocations was possible and done by stepping onto specific pedestals designated for each vocation. To choose or switch vocations, players needed to step onto any of the designated Vocational Pedestals, which could be found in the following directions: Heading north to test Druid by stepping on the Druid Pedestal . Heading east to test Knight by stepping on the Knight Pedestal . Heading south to test Sorcerer by stepping on the Sorcerer Pedestal . Heading west to test Paladin by stepping on the Paladin Pedestal . Heading upstairs and to the west to test Monk by stepping on the Monk Pedestal . Each vocation received a starting set of items. When changing vocations, players would lose their original equipment (weapon and shield, and also the Jacket when changing to the Monk) and gain new items specific to their new vocation. The items provided were as follows: Druids received a Spellbook of the Novice and The Chiller, along with 1 Meat, 2 Light Stone Shower Runes, 2 Lightest Missile Runes, 10 Mana Potions, and 2 Small Health Potions. Knights received a Dagger and a Wooden Shield, along with 1 Meat, 2 Mana Potions, and 10 Small Health Potions. Sorcerers received a Spellbook of the Novice and The Scorcher, along with 1 Meat, 2 Light Stone Shower Runes, 2 Lightest Missile Runes, 10 Mana Potions, and 2 Small Health Potions. Paladins received a Bow and 100 Simple Arrows, along with 1 Meat, 5 Mana Potions, 7 Small Health Potions, 1 Light Stone Shower Rune, and 1 Lightest Magic Missile Rune. Monks received a Light Jo Staff, 5 Mana Potions, 7 Small Health Potions, 2 Light Stone Shower Runes, and 2 Lightest Missile Runes. Players could choose to become each vocation and collect a total of 4 Meat, 7 Light Stone Shower Runes, 7 Lightest Missile Runes, 32 Mana Potions, and 28 Small Health Potions. However, note that you could not claim more than one set of supplies per vocation. The key weapons and shields, such as the Light Jo Staff, Dagger, Wooden Shield, The Scorcher, The Chiller, Spellbook of the Novice, Bow, and a Quiver with 100 Simple Arrows, would be lost when changing vocations and replaced with the items for the newly chosen vocation. This applied even if those items were obtained through looting; they would still be removed from your inventory during the vocation change. Paladins could leave the pedestal and either throw their arrows on the ground and return immediately for 100 additional arrows, or use the arrows they had and return when they need more at any time. All vocations would receive basic spells, which would be carried over to the mainland. More spells could be tried out for free from level 8 onward from the NPCs in the Adventurers' Outpost.

SPELLS

The following spells are learned by all players, when they become a vocation. These spells would be swapped upon leaving the Adventurers' Outpost through the respective vocation gate. This was done to address the issue of characters leaving Dawnport with spells irrelevant to their vocation, as well as to allow older characters fair access to those spells. Knights learned Bruise Bane. Paladins learned Magic Patch, Arrow Call. Sorcerers learned Magic Patch, Buzz, Scorch, Lightest Missile Rune and Light Stone Shower Rune. Druids learned Mud Attack, Chill Out, Magic Patch, Lightest Missile Rune and Light Stone Shower Rune. In addition, all players could learn spells for free on Dawnport, if they met the required level, from 8 to 18. Druids and Sorcerers could try out spells offered by Garamond, while Paladins and Knights could try out spells offered by Ser Tybald, both on the third floor of the outpost. Spells obtained from Garamond and Ser Tybald would be removed from your spellbook upon leaving Dawnport. The following is a list of spells they could teach. Knights: Level 8 Wound Cleansing Find Person Light Level 10 Cure Poison Level 13 Great Light Paladins: Level 8 Light Healing Find Person Light Level 10 Cure Poison Level 13 Great Light Conjure Arrow Level 17 Destroy Field Druids: Level 8 Find Person Light Healing Light Apprentice's Strike (does not claim to teach it at level 8) Level 10 Cure Poison Level 13 Great Light Level 14 Food Poison Field Magic Shield Level 15 Fire Field Intense Healing Rune Cure Poison Rune Light Magic Missile Level 16 Convince Creature Level 17 Destroy Field Level 18 Energy Field Ice Wave Sorcerers: Level 8 Find Person Light Healing Light Apprentice's Strike Level 10 Cure Poison Level 13 Great Light Level 14 Poison Field Magic Shield Level 15 Fire Field Light Magic Missile Level 16 Convince Creature Level 17 Destroy Field Level 18 Energy Field Fire Wave

HUNTING PLACES

Dawnport had a lot of caves with a large variety of creatures, many of them unique to Dawnport. The small civilization was located in the heart of Dawnport Mountain, which had a hunting ground immediately outside. There was a Crypt to the east, a Minotaur Mine to the west, a Goblin Cave south-east, and an Orc Cave directly below Dawnport. Many of these hunting places required a Shovel. Players did not start with one, so it was highly recommended to purchase one before looking for hunting places, or better yet, loot one from a Troll-Trained Salamander.

CREATURES

Normal: Unreachable: These creatures could not be reached and could therefore do you no harm.

TREASURE CHESTS

Backpack: An empty Backpack could be found in a Treasure Chest . The entrance to the cave was . The cave itself had no monsters (the dead Goblins were only for decoration) but the surface had dangerous Creatures like Woodlings and Troll-Trained Salamanders.

HISTORY

10.55: Initial implementation. 10.56: Several bugs were fixed: Players can no longer throw items from the boat to the other side, preventing the Dawnport-leavers from throwing their items back for use by Dawnport (and then Rookgaard) characters. Players can no longer transfer items to Rookgaard. Rookgaard players, who have exploited this bug, have not lost the items obtained through the bug. A bug, where players could attack (defenseless) players inside the outpost was fixed. Players should no longer be able to attack other players inside the outpost at all. Players with level 20 and higher can no longer leave the temple. The Orc Berserker, which rarely spawned deep in the orc cave, has been removed. 10.93b: On May 18, 2016, creature products and probably other items were removed from the loot of the following creatures: Mountain Troll Troll-Trained Salamander Minotaur Bruiser Muglex Clan Footman Woodling Meadow Strider Dawnfly Scar Tribe Shaman Scar Tribe Warrior Brittle Skeleton Minotaur Poacher Dawn Scorpion Juvenile Cyclops Muglex Clan Assassin Muglex Clan Scavenger Minotaur Occultist Crazed Dwarf Lesser Fire Devil Troll Marauder 10.95b: On July 5, 2016, the spawns of Ghoul and Minotaur Guard were removed from Dawnport. 10.96: Bats were replaced by Dawn Bats which do not drop Bat Wings. Removal: Dawnport was removed from the game and has been replaced by Newhaven as the new beginner's island as of Update 15.12.c7d92c. Bugs: The following is a list of items that could be obtained only through exploiting bugs. These are no longer obtainable except by trading with people, who already have them. Battle Axe (Orc Berserker) Lamp (Orc Berserker) Halberd (Orc Berserker) Hunting Spear (Orc Berserker) Soldier Helmet (Knight vocation chest) Brass Armor (Knight vocation chest) Brass Legs (Knight vocation chest) Steel Shield (Knight vocation chest) Jagged Sword (Knight vocation chest) Magician's Robe (Druid and Sorcerer vocation chests) Mage Hat (Druid and Sorcerer vocation chests) Ranger's Cloak (Paladin vocation chest) Ranger Legs (Paladin vocation chest) Adventurer's Stone (Knight, Sorcerer, Druid and Paladin vocation chests) Explanation: Orc Berserker: once unintentionally spawned on the final floor of the Dawnport Orc Cave. This was a rare spawn. Knight, Sorcerer, Druid, Paladin vocation chests: you could previously throw items from the Dawnport Harbor back to the north-western section of Dawnport. You obtain the items within the vocation chests and cannot go back once you have done so (your respawn is changed to the Dawnport Harbor if you teleport).
