BETWEEN THE LINES QUEST GUIDE: FULL WALKTHROUGH & VOCATION STEPS

The Between the Lines Quest (introduced in version 15.10) takes you into the Book World — a dimension where ink creatures have escaped from enchanted books and kidnapped your Familiar. This multi-chapter quest has vocation-specific requirements and rewards you with access to new hunting grounds, exclusive figurines, the Illuminator Outfits, and the Power of Words achievement.

1. VOCATION-SPECIFIC ITEMS TO BRING

Each vocation needs different items to enter the Book World. Prepare these before you start:

KNIGHTS

  • • 1x Sword
  • • 1x Inkwell
  • • Combine them into an Ink-Coated Sword
  • Both buyable in Edron (Inkwell from Thomas, Sword from Willard)

PALADINS

  • • Talk to Quentin in Thais temple
  • • Ask about Getema
  • • Receive The Sacred Writings of Getema

DRUIDS

  • • 1x Sling Herb
  • • 1x Star Herb
  • • Use herbs on Suspicious Cauldrons in Sinclair's lab (4 floors above Wyrdin)
  • • Creates Jar of Blue Colour and Jar of Red Colour

SORCERERS

  • • Travel to Kazordoon near Pydar
  • • Use a rope to go up, then click the fire field to the east
  • • Obtain Phoenix Feather Quill

MONKS

  • • 1x Coned Hat of Enlightenment (from Way of the Monk Quest, Shrine of Harmony at lvl 70)
  • • Wear it and meditate between two statues on the top floor of the main building in Blue Valley

2. PEN AND SWORD — INKWING (CARLIN)

Go to Carlin and find NPC Phillip. Talk to him about his book— he'll tell you a monster escaped from it and is roaming the Carlin surroundings.

Follow the ink traces leading south of Carlin. Go down into the underground area and follow the corridors to the end. Step on the ink pool on the floor. Defeat Inkwing, then report back to Phillip about the book.

Phillip will suggest talking to Wyrdin at the Noodles Academy of Modern Magic in Edron for further investigation.

3. WYRDIN AND THE ILLUMINATED PAGES (EDRON)

At the Noodles Academy in Edron, talk to Wyrdin about the book. The same problem is happening in the academy and Edron Castle — book pages are working as portals bringing ink creatures through.

Go three floors down and enter the quest door to the east. You'll face Cinder Wyrmlings and Shell Drakes. Find three Illuminated Book Pages hidden in objects:

ILLUMINATED BOOK PAGE LOCATIONS

  • Page A: Inside a dead tree
  • Page B: Inside a tree stump
  • Page C: Inside some mushrooms

Return all three pages to Wyrdin. He'll counter-spell the first two — return them to the academy towers (one floor above the central tower, and three floors above the southern tower). Report back to Wyrdin.

WARNING

After the next step, your Summon Familiar spell is disabled until you complete the quest. Make sure you're ready to continue.

Go to Edron Castle library (west of Daniel Steelsoul) and use the last torn page on a book. Your Familiar gets pulled into the pages.

4. PREPARING TO ENTER THE BOOK WORLD

Report to Wyrdin. He'll apologize and explain you can rescue your Familiar by entering the book — but first you need your vocation-specific item (see Section 1 above).

Once prepared, report back to Wyrdin and he gives you a Magic Bookmark, which grants access to the Book World. Return to Edron Castle and use the book to enter.

5. CHAPTER I — MEETING QUILL

Inside the Book World, find and talk to NPC Quill. Your Familiar was kidnapped by Crusaders — half knight, half lion creatures. Their leader, Sir Leonard, holds your friend captive.

Quill explains you can use a Dip Pen to write things into existence on the parchment floor. Harvest a pen from parchment, fill it with ink from pools or fountains, then write on any blank space.

Get your mission from Quill, then use your Dip Pen with Ink on a blank space to create a Painted Torch. Use the torch on the stylized fire flower tile to burn a hole and proceed downstairs.

NOTE

The missions from Quill are done in different chapters depending on your vocation. If your vocation is not mentioned in a chapter, skip to the next one.

6. CHAPTER II — DRUID & PALADIN MISSIONS

This chapter contains Bramble Wyrmlings and Hawk Hoppers. Druids and Paladins complete their missions here:

DRUIDS

Create a brush made of deer fur to paint with your pigments:

  1. Use Dip Pen with Ink on a blank space to create Painted Bandages
  2. Collect three Painted Healing Herbs from locations in the chapter area
  3. Combine herbs with bandages to create Saturated Painted Bandages
  4. Use the bandages on the white deer to obtain a Deer Fur Brush

PALADINS

Learn a special archery technique:

  1. Use Dip Pen with Ink on a blank space to create a Painted Bow
  2. Use Dip Pen with Ink again in another location to create a Painted Arrow
  3. Stand on wax seals in the floor and use the Painted Bow on target boards
  4. Repeat until you've hit three targets successfully

What level do I need?

Level 200. You also need the Summon Familiar spell.

Can I get my Familiar back during the quest?

No. Your Summon Familiar spell is disabled after using the torn page on the book in Edron Castle until you complete the quest.

Is this quest soloable?

Yes. The quest is designed to be completed solo, though the creatures in the Book World can be challenging. The final boss Sir Leonard is accompanied by up to 5 Crusader Guardians.

Can I return to the Book World after completing the quest?

Yes. After completion, you have permanent access to the Book World hunting grounds via the teleports.

What if I lose my Magic Bookmark?

You can get another one from Wyrdin in Edron.
